The opening ceremony of the 8th edition of the International Film Festival of Marrakech
Several personalities from different fields, especially the world of art and culture, attended the opening ceremony of this major film event that celebrates the best national and international productions in all their

artistic and cultural diversity.

Fifteen films are in competition for the Golden Star (the Grand Prize), the
Jury Award and Best Male and Female performances in this 8th edition of the
IFFM. Movies that represent the countries of Morocco, the Philippines,
Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Argentina, Denmark, Finland, Italy, China,
Poland, Russia, the United States and India. The jury members were invited
to announce the opening of the 8th edition of the IFFM, each one of them in
their native language.

The jury of this edition chaired by the American director, screenwriter and
producer, Barry Levinson, winner of four Oscars, is composed of the Moroccan
psychiatrist-psychoanalyst and writer Ghita El Khayat, German actor
Sebastian Koch and the Portuguese actor Joaquim de Almeida , English
director, screenwriter and producer Hugh Hudson, Italian actress Caterina
Murino, Spanish director and screenwriter Agusti Villaronga, Belgian actress
Natacha Regnier and Guineo-Senegalese writer and lawyer Mariama Barry. Mr.
Levinson said that he was "very honored to preside over the jury of this
festival that takes place in a country of generosity and hospitality."

For its part, British actress Charlotte Rampling, who chaired the jury for
the first edition of the festival in 2001, recalled the context of its
launch that coincided with the events of 11 September, stressing that "this
8th edition proves that those who came at that time had been right. "I am
happy to remain a friend of the festival," she said.

In this edition, the cinema will be honoured by the tribute that will be
made to the "40 years of British cinema", "the Russian Andrei Konchalovsky",
"50 years of Moroccan cinema" and "the best of the Egyptian director that
died few months agor Youssef Chahine.

On Saturday there will be a screening of a documentary by Martin Scorsese
about the legendary Rolling Stones "Shine A Light", dedicated to the
festival in the Jamaa El Fna Square as it was announced by

the presenters of
the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was followed by the screening of the film "What just
happened?" by Barry Levinson, which tells the story of a film producer in
Hollywood, who just emerged from a failed second marriage, and has struggled
to balance his next film feature.
